No Sleep For Ryan

I’m pretty sure I’m becoming an insomniac. And the worst part is that instead of sleeping, I work on my blog. I’m falling further and further into the dorkness.

I set up Technorati to work with the CFC version of my blog. Now you can click on the “Blogs that link here” and see all of the people who link to my site…….oh look at that, no one!

Enough Blogging. Time for bed.

AAAAAAAAAAAARGH

I’m 0 – 57 in the “stuff that is supposed to work tonight” category. It’s been a bad night for Ryan and CF/SQL Coding.

In any case, before I could find out that nothing was working, I put some links and images on the right hand side for the stuff that I use. Enjoy.

New BlogCFC Version

I’ve upgraded the site to BlogCFC version 3.7.1 which is supposed to make some significant improvements in search engine optimization with the help of Rob Brooks-Bilson.

I think there’s another version coming out in the near future, but I couldn’t get the beta version of that to run on my dev machine so I’ll have to wait for the final release.

Until then, we’ll see if Google can find some more of my pages using this version.

Jury Duty

I had jury duty today for the first time in my life…..and it was really, really boring. I didn’t even get to go into the room and have the lawyers ask me questions. I was in the last group and they got all of the jurors they needed before they got to our group. Of course that didn’t happen until 4:00 anyway, so I just sat in a room from about 8:15 – 4:00 and read The Economist and Fortune. I got a lot of reading done, but it was really, really boring.

On a more exciting note (or not), I found out today that if you google Ryan Stewart Blog, this page comes up first. That may not seem like much, but for a while, when I googled it, I would other people’s blogs talking about Jon Stewart. Just googling Ryan Stewart brings up too many pages. I don’t show up until the third page.

Long Weekend Away

We just spent a weekend in New Hope, PA and had a good time. We hiked the Appalachian Trail (around the Delaware Water Gap) for a couple of hours and got to see a little bit of Pennsylvania hiking country. I think I was more impressed than Ciara but that may just be because my standards are getting lower.

For the most part it was a nice relaxing weekend and a good break from the city.

I hope to have the small site fixes up this week. I have noticed that the page doesn’t display correctly in internet explorer.

Digital Backcountry – Cold Fusion Style

I finally made the plunge and signed up for a Cold Fusion hosting account. I decided to go with HostMySite and their customer service has been fantastic.

So now I’m using Raymond Camden’s BlogCFC program to run the blogging duties here. AS you can see, it’s using the basic default layout but I’m planning to add and modify that this week. Hopefully by Friday I will have the old look and feel up and some other things on the right hand side. I also need to convert my old entries to this new format.

I’m really excited about having a CF server to code with. It’s going to be great for the blog, for creating apps for my trip reports and as a learning experience. I’m much better at CF than PHP so I think the depth of the site is going to be much improved.
