AIR 2 Beta 2 Available – Much Improved Printing Support

February 3rd, 2010 by ryanstewart

If you missed it yesterday, AIR 2 beta 2 is now available on Adobe labs. This release includes some bug fixes, some optimizations, and a few new features including support for TLS/SSL socket communication and much improved support for interacting with printers. I sat down with the engineer who did a lot of the work on the new printing API and interviewed him about it. He also walked me through a demo of the new features. The APIs let you have complete control over printing and customize the experience. It’s worth checking out.

Is this advanced printing going to be part of the Flash Player in general, or only AIR? Making Flex web apps print nicely is very painful :(

this is great! Could the demo shown be made available (as a source files) or a tutorial. And I’m wondering why some of this (like the better bitmap printing) is only for AIR, can’t it also be in the flash player for web apps?

    Hi Ryan,
I just downloaded the new AIR bata 2 SDK and runtime to test these printing support features. But I am surprised to see that the PrintJob class is not included in this new version though you ask the presenter in the video about the API and he answers it as PrintJob class and a property called printers as well. I agree to David if you can please post the source files for this demo so we may figure out the problem
    Thanks .
