Building a P2P Chat Application with Adobe Stratus
June 2nd, 2009 by ryanstewart
Adobe Stratus is a hosted beta service that uses new RTMFP functionality in Flash Player 10 to connect directly instead of having to round trip between the server and the instance of the player. I chatted with Laurel Reitman and Jozsef Vass about the benefits of RTMFP and Stratus. At the end I demo how to create a very simple chat program using Stratus.

I have to develop P2P instant messenger for my one project.
Can I use this beta version stratus service?
My project will be live in March 2010.
What implications will be occurred in future?
When will I able to setup my own stratus service server?
Do I need to purchase anything?

Hi Ryan,
I tried to play around with stratus for file sharing. I am using two online examples and they are working but I see that the speed is very very low, at about 50kB/s. Do you have any clue about the max speed??

Hmmm, I’m not sure, but I don’t know that it would work very well for file sharing. I’ll try and find out for you.
