Amethyst Hits Beta 5 – Includes Support for Refactoring
I just got an email from Huw that Amethyst, one of the Visual Studio plugins for Flex, has hit Beta 5 which includes refactoring support and the options to run and debug using a web server. He’s also made some tweaks to the code formatting and some bug fixes.
I’m really excited to see the Visual Studio/.NET ecosystem for Flex start to grow up. Between WebORB for .NET, FlourineFx, Amethyst, and Tofino it’s a pretty good time to be combining .NET and Flex.
You can grab the Amethyst Beta 5 bits here. Make sure to give them feedback and let them know what you think.

What does it say about Flex Builder and Adobe’s committment to it, when an independent and much smaller company can produce a Flex IDE with significantly better refactoring, debugginng, formatting, etc??

I haven’t spent time diving into Amethyst’s features to know how they compare to Flash Builder. But I don’t think there should be any question that we’re committed to it. It’s a pretty core part of our developer tools.

Hey Ryan,
I thought I’d update you. Amethyst launched today and we’ve announced a technology partnership that will enable end-to-end Flash/Flex to .NET development inside Visual Studio. Pretty good news for the Flash platform evangelists I’d say. I’ve posted a news release here: http://bit.ly/cPzYbi
