Flash Gaming Summit Slides and Presentation

March 25th, 2009 by ryanstewart

The Flash Gaming Summit on Sunday was one of the absolute coolest Flash events I’ve been to in a long time. Josh Tynjala put it best when he said “it’s weird being at a Flash conference where I don’t know anyone”. I felt the exact same way, especially since some of the stuff these guys are doing is really, really cool. So hopefully that will change. There are a few things at Adobe going on that are specifically targeted at the Flash gaming market. It’s got a great third party-ecosystem and we want to help that. With our mobile story coming together I think that the Flash gaming world is going to have a huge, huge impact on our direction. And that’s exciting.

You can grab the slides from my presentation over on Acrobat.com and my session was recorded (in various bits and parts) over on the MochiLand blog. Huge thanks to Ada Chen from Mochi Media for making it happen. See you guys next year!

    Hi Ryan!

    Thanks for the presentation at the summit, it’s nice to see Adobe finally publicly acknowledge flash game developers like myself and hopefully this will increase in future!

    Unfortunately, I wasn’t there personally, but I got this link at the mochi forums (which is another great place for Adobe to be to keep in pulse with the needs of flash game devs).

    As you mentioned the videos are bits and pieces only, so I wanted to ask you what slide 25 was about regarding ‘How can Adobe help?’ like the ‘trial/buy libraries’ and ‘app store for games’ for example? Are these things available now that you can ask and receive from Adobe or Planned future services etc?

    Also, I would like to use AIR to create download versions of games made in flash, but optional things like drm, trial/buy methods and distribution would be handy if available. I also look forward to when as3 hopefully becomes mobile compatible.

    Thanks in advance!

    @Leroy,

    Slide 25 was just a big list of some of the things we’re thinking about that might be helpful to people building Flash games. We’re looking for as much feedback as possible so we can prioritize that list and focus our strategy a little bit.

    So there’s nothing concrete you can use, but if you have a top 3 things you’d like to see, feel free to email them to me and I’ll pass them on!

    Thanks Ryan for the the link to MochiLand so we could see the
    presentation on the future of Flash.

    May I ask what Pixel Bender kernel was used for the transition effect from the photos in the 3D Carousel and if it is available on the Adobe Pixel Bender Exchange? Is it the same example as the one shown by Lee Brimelow in Nevada that he displayed on his blog?
