They'd channel surf to it, see something they sorta liked, and watch until the first commercial break, at which point they'd change the channel because there was no incentive to stay (e.g., "What happens after this suspenseful moment?"). They took their problem to a consulting company (Booz Allen Hamilton, where I used to work)...the (expensive) answer they received was "Stop showing 3-minutes programming. Show shows with plots, interrupt the plot at an interesting moment with a commercial break, making people stick around to see what happens." Not exactly a non-obvious or creative solution, but it means you can blame my ex-employed (and me, by proxy, even though I wasn't involved!) for MTV stopping showing videos. True story:
