Rich Internet Applications and Online Retail

I saw this post this morning and thought it was worth sharing. I’m not familiar with the InfoSys blogs and it doesn’t seem like they get a lot of comments but I liked that this article talked a bit about RIAs in the enterprise (and the blocks there) as well as the reasons why it’s been successful in the consumer space.

I have discussed RIA implementation with a few of my clients and have been pretty surprised by their criticism. I think the RIA paradigm (a loose title, for sure) has to be more clearly defined before it will gain B2C e-commerce support. I’m sure some more discussion in internet retailer rags will be helpful.

The main hurdle most of my clients perceive is waiting for the best framework to utilize. Because RIAs are relatively new, no one wants to put their eggs in any single basket yet.

I’m not sure who runs that blog .. I have a feeling its not Infosys the company … I may be wrong though.

I do know that we have quite a few developers from Infosys on http://flex-india.org which tells me that Infosys is actively pursuing the RIA route, this is very important since there is a very big demand for RIA developers from India and even though adoption of flex and other RIA technologies in India is growing at a very fast pace (flex-india has grown form 60 members in march 07 to 636 members today) the involvement of consultancy biggies like Infosys, Wipro etc will catapult adoption in India.

In reply to Mrinal, it is infact an Infosys owned blog. I wrote that particular post, so i know :D . Anyway, I belong to the Web 2.0 Research Lab at Infosys, and we do quite a bit of consultancy work in the Web 2.0 space, including RIA.
