A Yahoo! Mail Client Built With Adobe AIR
The online/offline use case for email is probably the one everyone is most familiar with. Unfortunately, as people move towards online email services they lose the ability to integrate directly with the web application and take it offline. Doing something like this is a perfect use case for Adobe AIR and Ryan Kennedy and Dave Glass have built one for Yahoo! Mail.
Ryan was actually at MAX speaking about the application but I didn’t get to see his talk. Since then he’s put up a couple of good posts on his blog. The first one is about some of the security changes we made from Beta 1 to Beta 2. The second one is actually a mini-tutorial on using BBAuth (Yahoo’s Browser-Based Authentication) and AIR together. Both are good reads for Ajax developers who are building AIR apps.

Ryan(s)-
Just downloaded and installed the Yahoo! Mail app. You may want to mention that (at least on a Mac) you need to drop the .zip from the end of the file, but not unzip the application.
Had a bit of difficulty, but thought I read somewhere that AIR apps were zip files.
Cheers,

I received this error when attempting to install on a Mac.
“This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which is no longer supported. Please contact the application author for an updated version.”

Took me a while to stumble on this, but I found it.
The AIR version issue is known. We built it originally for beta 1. When beta 2 came out, all hell broke loose with our app. I’ve finally got it to the point where it works in the command line runner in the Flex SDK, but the packaged version starts up and leaves me with a blank window. I’m trying to see if I can fix that tonight/tomorrow so someone here at Yahoo! can show it at a conference over the weekend.
