How Would You Feel About Informal Adobe Meetups?
I saw this post about a CrunchGear meetup in Budapest and Warsaw and got to thinking. I’ve see other meetup groups that just get together informally over beers or something and the ones I’ve seen have been based around blogs. Mine isn’t big enough to do something like that but what about an informal Adobe meetup every once in a while?
I obviously travel a lot and I’m a pretty big fan of beer, so would you guys be interested if I hosted informal meetups in the cities I’m visiting? It wouldn’t be Adobe sponsored/endorsed but we could talk about anything Adobe related. How far in advance would you need to hear about something like that? Would you be up for getting beers with other people doing Adobe stuff? It would probably start by being Flash/Flex/AIR focused but I’m a CF guy as well and we could even expand it into Photoshop and Illustrator eventually.
So am I crazy? Would that be fun?

Informal meetups and beer are fantastic. I think a couple of days notice (or less) is all that’s needed / appropriate. If you’re in the Michigan post it and I’ll definitely get a pint or three with you.

“Mine isn’t big enough to do something like”
If I had a quarter for every time I said that…

Hi Ryan, here’s a related resource:

Informal Adobe meetups would definitely be fun. Doesn’t really matter what the focus is. Adobe has so many great products. Flash, Flex and AIR do make a good start though.
So if you ever come to Germany let us know.

If it was in Europe I would so be there. Maybe even do the AIR bus tour in Europe. You can pick me up when you get to London

If you make it out to the eastern seaboard, I am in Newport, RI about 1.5 hours away from Boston and 3 from NYC.

Did you say beer? I would be very interested in something like that, but I’m assuming you won’t be traveling to Kelowna, BC any time soon ha

It would be best to first see if there are any user groups in the city that want to help organize something. Usergroup meetings can be pretty informal.

I’d be drinking soda instead of beer, but I’d hang out and talk with you and other folks for awhile if you’re in my neck of the woods (DC, Baltimore, or Annapolis).

Count me in!

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys. I wouldn’t want to trump the local user groups at all, and I’d definitely email them first, but some of my trips I just don’t have time to do anything official with the UGs or it isn’t with enough notice to get a meeting together.
I thought this might be a good in between.

“So am I crazy? Would that be fun?”
even more “funner” would be something that wasn’t just for North America…
and JD’s right, usergroups could come in handy to get the word out. And if you come to Brisbane you can give Barnes heaps on his home turf…

If you’re in the Austin area then definitely let’s meet up. I almost made the 3 hour trip up to Dallas for the AIR tour, I’m still disappointed I wasn’t able to attend. We can always talk hockey, wolves and tigers as well as Adobe stuff.

This wouldn’t be limited to NA Barry. I go all over the place (in theory) so this would be something I could do wherever I am.
I think it’s a go, so once I know my schedule after the second leg of the bus tour, I’ll start posting about some meetups.
