Flex Developer and Consulting Directory is Live
In watching my Twitters, I saw that Ted Patrick has released the first iteration of his Flex Directory Project. It’s essentially a list of companies that offer Flex development services. Right now he just has a few of the companies there, but it looks like he got most of the partners. Hopefully this list ends up growing. I’d also like to see a social aspect added to it so we could vote on these companies and help sort some of them out.
If you want to be added, it looks like all you have to do is submit it via that page. Another cool thing? This is built using FXSL, something Ted cooked up, so when you view source, you’ll see an XML document with all of the companies.

There are very few partners on this list, many more to come!!! We will be populating the directory ongoing. The current list is but a few key consulting firms in the Flex space.
The return of FXSL!

Ted

Maybe someone can clarify (Ted?), the number of developers are Flex specific resources? I know that Cynergy Systems, from their web site, also supports PowerBuilder, Java and Sybase (and more, I’m sure). So, they are saying they have 58 Flex developers? If not, is this misleading? (same goes for all the other companies on the list, lest someone think I’m picking on Cynergy)
Ted, maybe a note regarding this, to clarify, would be in order?
Nice resource, though – good job

The number of developers is there to size a company against a project and is not Flex specific. It takes a wide range of developers and designers to deliver an RIA. Any information on the site is submitted by the companies themselves.
It doesn’t take many Flex developers to put a massive dent in a project it is designed to be very productive. Sliderocket.com is mainly 2 devs at the moment and it is one of the best RIA’s I have seen. The Flex Directory RIA is 1 designer and me for 1 week total and most of our work was accommodating changes to the market, not delivering core features. I wrapped up all the data exchange and API in 3 hours.
I worked for Cynergy before coming to Adobe. They are an amazing group, have skills across many RIA and application disciplines, and they can get big projects done. I think one of the things that makes them stand out is their legacy of building Client/Server on PowerBuilder and Java. As I keep finding the most successful developers in Flex were building real desktop applications before.

Ted
