The Elusive Rich Internet Application

April 2nd, 2007 by ryanstewart

The NeelZone has an excellent post up about what to think about as you are choosing a Rich Internet Application platform. He gets into the nitty gritty technical details of memory usage and network/bandwidth issues. It’s one of the better breakdowns I’ve seen on the evolution of RIAs from Java and how rich desktop applications play a part.

He thinks open standards (or lack thereof) are going to hinder RIA development as the major technologies now are proprietary. That’s the only major part of his post I disagree with, but I think others might lean the other direction. In any case, it’s a very good, thought provoking read.
