Drinking the 360|Conference Kool-Aid

I am very happy to announce that I’m joining up with John Wilker and Tom Ortega to bring you lots of 360|Conference goodness. I had a blast at the conference in San Jose, and I got a chance to see how excited developers are about Flex. The fact that it sold out so quickly showed that there was a ton of demand and that the conference really resonated with people.

So I wanted more. I’m going to be working with them to help put on 360|Flex here in Seattle as well as other things down the line. I think these guys have a great approach to conferences and that the three of us can do a lot of good for developers. I’m still doing my day job, and I’ll still be blogging as regularly as before, so nothing will change; I’ll just be sleeping less.

Huge thanks to John and Tom for letting me on the team. I think it’s going to be a blast, and I can’t wait to get feedback from people about what other conferences they want to see, and how we can fill those needs.

Congrats. However I would like to express my disappointment that the Boston idea appears to have died. As a Boston resident and the manager of the Boston CFUG, I obviously advocate our location, but either way, an East Coast venue would have been nice. Or how about something Midwest? My point is, you might consider for your next one to think beyond the west coast :)

Yeah, I second an East Coast spot. I took the long haul over to the Left Coast for the last 360 Flex. A lot of other people did as well. There are plenty of nice spots on the East Coast for Conferences. Boston, DC, Raleigh, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami…… Take your pick.

Yup, I’m with both of you. I don’t know exactly what happened with the Boston one this time around, but I think one of our priorities is to have one out there as soon as we can set it up.

East coast definitely isn’t out of the running, no way jose!

Don’t hate Ryan, we chose Seattle before he came on :) However a few things went into us sticking to the west coast.
    1. Boston in August or Seattle in August… really do I need to bring up the heat/humidity? :)

    2. Price. We found that Boston was spendy. too spendy for us. That’s not to say it’s out for good, but until the business has money in the bank to help with these issues, we didn’t want to have to charge 600 per ticket to help cover the cost of venue and food.

    3. EVERYONE was gonna be in Boston. We weren’t sure if we wanted to be just another tech conference in Boston this year :)

That all said. The east coast will be getting love, don’t worry. We haven’t forgotten or forsaken you guys

We’re compiling a list of potential host cities, right now I think it has two cities on it, LOL. We plan to bring the love to the mid west, east coast, and the WORLD!! :)

Thanks for the replies…glad to hear that we may get 360Flex on the east coast (or elsewhere in the US) sometime soon. I reiterate that I would be more than happy to volunteer my help in whatever capacity it could be of use.

As for price, was there no chance of using some of the Adobe facilities? There are also any number of universities (only like 500 in the Boston metro area I think) who often assist in hosting this sort of event. Perhaps having someone working those logistics locally would be helpful.

With DX3 recently canceled, what else is going to be in Boston? Not arguing, just curious…

I think when they were doing the planning, it looked like there would be Dx3 AND FlashForward in Boston, but then none of those actually happened (except FlashForward looks like it will).

So it’s not crowded any more, which really sucks for you guys! I wish we could have planned ahead.

When thinking about the East Coast, don’t forget Philly! Cheaper than NYC and Boston, yet easily accessible via plane and train… The cigar bar misses you, Ryan!

Mmmm…I do love me the Philly Cheesesteak. I could be down with Philly.

Another thing to remember too is we’re still a very small org and therefore we have to stick with what we know. All 3 of us know Seattle and that helps. It’s easier when we can focus on the conference and not the venue/local. Once the conferences become second nature to us, then moving to newer cities will be a breeze.

I’m sorry to disappoint, but we’ll make it out there soon enough. Til’ then head out west one more time, we promise not to disappoint.
