Windows Presentation Foundation Penetration Numbers May Get a Boost

February 3rd, 2007 by ryanstewart

I just saw over on DesignersLove.NET that the .NET 3.0 Framework is now being listed as an optional download under Windows Update for Windows XP. As you can see from the screenshot on his site, the framework clocks in at over 50 megs, so I’m not entirely sure what kind of impact this will have on WPF penetration.

However in the age of broadband, 50 megs isn’t ridiculous especially if you set your Windows Updates to download and install overnight. I haven’t seen any numbers from Microsoft as to how many computers have .NET 3.0 installed, but if offering it as an optional update for XP works, that’s good news for people building WPF applications.
