Macromedia Helping with CFEclipse

This will teach me not to miss CFUnited in the future. At the opening Keynote Tim Buntel announced that the ColdFusion team at Macromedia will be lending a hand to the CFEclipse project. And as if I needed even more good news, it sounds like CFEclipse is getting a new release AND there’s a new website.

Info/News here, here, and here.

This is really awesome news and I’m happy for the CFEclipse team. They’ve put together a phenomenal product and should be proud of the community adoption. With the announcement of Zorn I figured it was only a matter of time before Macromedia committed to helping the CFEclipse project but it’s great to see the official announcement.

If you’re not using Eclipse for CF Development, you should be.

Zenning Digital Backcountry

After talking a little bit with Terry today, I’m playing with the idea of redesigning the site. He has the book The Zen of CSS Design by Dave Shea who runs the CSS Zen Garden. Every time I look at that site I want to do a redesign because it’s the ultimate inspiration site when it comes to CSS artistry, but I also have some cool pictures that Ciara and I have taken which I’d like to show off (just like the one at the top of the page now). It’s just a matter of finding a design which is conducive to doing that.

I’m still in the very early “Photoshop” stage but I’ll post jpegs as I get closer and closer. In the end I may stick with what I have, but we’ll see how it goes.

FleXP

This was too sweet not to post about. The guys over at Macromedia Consulting have created a Flex skin that is supposed to mimic the Windows XP interface. There are a couple of things that are off but overall it’s a really cool proof of concept.

I’ve said before that I think RIAs are going to become the backbone of the personal computer. This isn’t the way something like that will be accomplished, but it’s an interesting experiment down that path.

In the future it’s going to be all about refining the user interface for RIAs. These kinds of exercises are good ways of doing that.

No Sleep For Ryan

I’m pretty sure I’m becoming an insomniac. And the worst part is that instead of sleeping, I work on my blog. I’m falling further and further into the dorkness.

I set up Technorati to work with the CFC version of my blog. Now you can click on the “Blogs that link here” and see all of the people who link to my site…….oh look at that, no one!

Enough Blogging. Time for bed.

Yikes

Because I’m one of three remaining Hockey fans in the United States, I have to go to a lot of Canadian news sites to find any hockey information. Sadly, even some of the Canadian sites seem to be losing interest.

When looking around these sites, every once in a while I find something that is so Canadian that I can’t help but be amazed. A curling video game is one of those things. Terrifying.

AAAAAAAAAAAARGH

I’m 0 – 57 in the “stuff that is supposed to work tonight” category. It’s been a bad night for Ryan and CF/SQL Coding.

In any case, before I could find out that nothing was working, I put some links and images on the right hand side for the stuff that I use. Enjoy.

New BlogCFC Version

I’ve upgraded the site to BlogCFC version 3.7.1 which is supposed to make some significant improvements in search engine optimization with the help of Rob Brooks-Bilson.

I think there’s another version coming out in the near future, but I couldn’t get the beta version of that to run on my dev machine so I’ll have to wait for the final release.

Until then, we’ll see if Google can find some more of my pages using this version.
