Working with Remote Objects

I finally got remote objects to work this weekend. For those of you following along at home, that was the problem I was having way back before I went through the JRun installs. Thanks to an article over at Richinternet.de it was pretty easy to set up and I’m much more familiar with the flex-config.xml file. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing, but it’s been a learning process.

Now that everything is working I can start work on the actual application. I’m planning to use Flex to build a user interface that will let me track my stock holdings in a little bit more depth than Ameritrade will. I want to be able to track things like P/E, Market Cap and Dividend Yield for stocks in my portfolio and also other stocks. I also want to track historical data from other stocks and futures so I can research correlations between my stocks and the wider market. My coal stock goes up and down like a damn pogo stick so I want to try and figure out what causes the massive swings. I have a hunch there’s a relationship to the price of Oil, but I want to be able to track it against a bunch of other things.

I’ll probably post the source code at some point and I’ll be blogging throughout about cool things I find out about Flex. I’ve also got some small projects that I want to use Flex and Flash Communication Server for.
